Front Propagation and Clustering in the Stochastic Nonlocal Fisher Equation
The nonlocal Fisher equation is a diffusion-reaction equation where the reaction has a linear birth term and a nonlocal quadratic competition, which describes the reaction between distant individuals. This equation arises in evolutionary biological systems, where the arena for the dynamics is trait space, diffusion accounts for mutations and individuals with similar traits compete, resulting in...
متن کاملConvergence of approximation schemes for nonlocal front propagation equations
We provide a convergence result for numerical schemes approximating nonlocal front propagation equations. Our schemes are based on a recently investigated notion of weak solution for these equations. We also give examples of such schemes, for a dislocation dynamics equation, and for a Fitzhugh-Nagumo type system.
متن کاملConvergence of Nonlocal Threshold Dynamics Approximations to Front Propagation
In this note we prove that appropriately scaled threshold dynamics-type algorithms corresponding to the fractional Laplacian of order α ∈ (0, 2) converge to moving fronts. When α ≧ 1 the resulting interface moves by weighted mean curvature, while for α < 1 the normal velocity is nonlocal of “fractional-type.” The results easily extend to general nonlocal anisotropic threshold dynamics schemes. ...
متن کاملFront propagation in a kinetic reaction-transport equation
In this paper, we study the existence and stability of travelling wave solutions of a kinetic reactiontransport equation. The model describes particles moving according to a velocity-jump process, and proliferating thanks to a reaction term of monostable type. The boundedness of the velocity set appears to be a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of positive travelling waves. T...
متن کاملDesertification by front propagation?
Understanding how desertification takes place in different ecosystems is an important step in attempting to forecast and prevent such transitions. Dryland ecosystems often exhibit patchy vegetation, which has been shown to be an important factor on the possible regime shifts that occur in arid regions in several model studies. In particular, both gradual shifts that occur by front propagation, ...
